Why I design custom

Clients often ask which particular line of cabinet products I work with & my answer is that I design custom cabinets to suit the space.  This allows clients to get exactly what they want.  I design specifically for each project & control the quality, detailing & use of materials.  And there is a direct relationship with the cabinetmaker so that any issues can be resolved during construction & installation & special details can be integrated into the project. Custom cabinets are also often priced similarly to the better production cabinets but come with immediate service response.

I purchase products from the design showrooms not open to the public; fabrics in particular, as many are excellent in design, beautifully made & only available through these venues. This holds true for carpeting that can be an existing product or be custom designed & woven to specifications.

The design market also has special lighting fixtures, or ones that are custom designed, that are up to date with all the innovative new technology & meet new code requirements.

I prefer to design custom furniture for my clients to insure that the piece is designed in scale to the space & proportional to the other furnishings. The piece must be constructed of the right materials so that it is integrated into the total design & looks as if it belongs in the setting. This allows me to work with specialty artists based on what is needed: the furniture maker, the stained glass artist, the metal smith & the custom upholsterer. Custom furniture is also better constructed  & made to last. My custom furniture has been shipped to clients all over the U.S.
